Works in Progress

Lost In Translation series: Ready February 2023, details to come.

The following are some of the paintings I’m working on for my upcoming show February 2-5, 2023.

To me, there is a special fascination to seeing an unfinished work of art. The way it offers a telling glimpse into an artist’s process and how it makes you wonder where it will end up.

Below are progress shots of what I’m working on for the LOST IN TRANSLATION series… It makes me a bit uncomfortable because during my process there are often awkward stages where it’s clear I’m still trying to figure it out and certain things just aren’t working.  Kind of like putting together IKEA furniture, but boy it’s a rush when you finally get it put together.

I’ll update the progress of each painting every few weeks or so. Check back every now then.

UPDATE: 03/10/21
WORKING TITLE: The Best Part Of You The World Has Never Seen
SIZE: 60″ x 84″
COMMENTS: May be the closest I ever get to capturing true beauty. All of the elements are in place, a lot of work left to do with details and lighting.

WORKING TITLE: All That Is Gained And Left Behind In The In-Between Place
SIZE: 60″ x 60″
COMMENTS: Wicker chair getting a lot of attention…Sticking with the pinks, trying to capture either morning or afternoon light. The drawing on the opening of the suitcase in the lower left is based on an intricate ancient asian fishing scene watercolor. Will be super detailed and cool.

UPDATE: 07/05/22
WORKING TITLE: Acting on a hunch to put away the instructions
SIZE: 46″ x 72″
COMMENTS: This was originally a very elaborate painting with a camel as the central focus. Thankfully, not all of my pieces encounter this level of evolution.

UPDATE: 08/02/22
WORKING TITLE: Not sure yet…
SIZE: 46″ x 52″
COMMENTS: If you watch the animation of progress photos, you’ll see that I recently made a major shift. I hated to give up the wicker chair but it had to go, it wanted too much attention.

The Grande version of this is in the works.
